News Flash • Austin Park and Chimneystone Drainage Improveme

Update: Nov 11, 2024
Beginning Wednesday (11/13) both westbound lanes of Austin Parkway at Commonwealth will be temporarily closed. Austin Parkway will remain open with two-way traffic on the eastbound lanes. The westbound lanes closure is expected to take 2 weeks based on current progress.

This traffic switch is to facilitate the installation of 8’ x 6’ concrete box pipe across Austin Parkway.

Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes to avoid delays. Residents are asked to be mindful of work crews during this time. Visit its.sugarlandtx.gov for more information on Sugar Land travel time data.

About This Project

The Austin Park and Chimneystone drainage improvement project is ongoing. Temporary water service outages and single lane road closures can be expected only in the Austin Park neighborhood.

The project includes:

  • Construction of a storm sewer trunkline between Ditch A and the Acacia Drive storm sewer outfall. This segment of storm sewer will consist of 10- foot-wide by 6-foot-tall reinforced concrete box (RCB) piping. This new piping will be installed parallel to the existing RCB storm sewer system that outfalls to Ditch A and will be hydraulically connected.
  • Construction of storm sewer improvements along Acacia Drive. The storm sewer improvements will consist of reinforced concrete pipe (RCP), varying in size from 24-inch diameter to 54-inch diameter. This new piping will be installed in parallel to the existing storm sewer system along Acacia Drive and be hydraulically connected.
  • Construction of a storm sewer trunkline between the Acacia Drive storm sewer outfall and Austin Parkway. This segment of the storm sewer trunkline will consist of 8-foot-wide by 6-foot-tall RCB piping; and,
  • Construction of a stormwater drainage channel (and associated appurtenances) between Austin Parkway and Thistlewood Drive, within the City’s undeveloped Oilfield Road ROW.
